Tulum Tips

Travel\\\

Don’t forget your passport. A passport is required to travel to Mexico!

Tulum is about a 90 min from the Cancun airport. You have the option of joining the shuttles (arranged by the Bride and Groom) for guests arriving Wednesday afternoon. If you are arriving at another day/time, you can book your own transportation at your preferred time. There are many services to choose from.

Upon arrival, there will be many taxi’s or private cars to take you to Tulum. However, by pre booking your ride you will get the best price.

Return transportation should be scheduled based on your flight time. Since most guests are departing Sunday carpooling is encouraged.

Cash v credit cards\\\

Cards: The vast majority of places accept cards in Tulum. Cards will have the best exchange rate because your bank will use the actual rate set each day.

Cash: Just about everywhere will accept American dollars but we do recommend getting some Pesos. Especially when paying for taxis as they do not accept cards. Places such as shops, bars, restaurants will have their own exchange rate and it is not as favorable as the rate you will get with a card. Taxis will have the worst exchange rate of all. You can get Pesos at your bank before you leave or there is a currency exchange at the airport. There are also ATMs in Tulum, but they have higher fees and a limit on how much you can withdraw.

Temperature: Attire\\\

  • High : Mid 80’s during the day
  • Low : Low 70’s at night

Lots of beach attire is suggested! Since it will be in the 80’s during the day plan for tropical conditions.

After sundown it will be in the 70’s but usually still very warm. Almost all restaurants and cocktail bars are open air and allow shorts. It’s our experience that jeans and heavy clothing is not necessary in Tulum.

A light cover up or jacket for walks on the beach at night may be preferred, as it does get windy.

Wedding attire : There is no specific attire required for the wedding but we suggest dressy casual. Please wear shoes that are ok for the sand as the ceremony will be near the beach. There will be a designated place to leave your shoes before entering the beach area if you choose to leave them behind.

Getting around\\\

Once you have checked in to your hotel most places are very close by. There is only one main street that runs up the Tulum beach. At anytime you can easily walk out to the road and hail a taxi. Restaurants and boutiques are walking distance from the main hotel areas.

If you choose to rent a car they are very affordable, but there is not many places that have parking. So please check with your hotel to make sure there is parking available for your rental car.

If participating in cenote trips please do not wear any type of sunscreen, tanning oil, deodorant, skin or hair products before entering. If you do they will request you rinse it off. Cenotes are freshwater caves that all connect underground and this ensures they are kept natural and free of contaminates from tourists. Biodegradable sunscreen is allowed but not really necessary as there is not a lot of light in the cenotes.

It is suggested to bring these products to apply after the cenotes if you choose. Small bags or backpacks can be left locked in tour guide’s vans.

Transportation to and from Cenotes is provided by your tour guide and included in the price.
